Vegan Cook Book
I just found a new cook book... that is....
-vegan
-low fat
-not complicated
-clear
-easy to understand
and it uses familiar ingredients!
The photography is wonderful, and will leave you with your mouth watering. Even my picky eaters were excited when they thumbed through this book.
It is
The Happy Herbivore
by Lindsay S. Nixon
I was lucky enough to receive this as a gift, but the back of the book says the list price is $19.95.

Exceptional Vegan Cookie Recipe
We just tried these cookies, both with and without chocolate chips. They are excellent!!
The only change to the recipe that we made was to use 1 cup Soft Winter Wheat (Pastry Flour), and 1 cup of the Rice Flour.
We have not tried to add the ice cream to create the ice cream sandwiches.... but that looks tasty too.

Counterculturalism
Being vegan in a Christian community is unusual, and downright countercultural!!
It takes intentional effort to build friendships that are outside
of the typical pot luck or hot dog barbecue setting.
And some days this makes me sad.

Forks Over Knives out on DVD
We just watched the new (DVD) movie Forks Over Knives.
It is a well organized, clearly presented discussion of the health benefits of a plant based diet.
This is a DVD that we plan to share with family and friends who are confused about veganism.
The movie was even appealing to my elementary aged children.
Yay! We will need to order a second copy to pass around!!

Goods vs. Ultimates
It is a balancing act to remain focused on the "main things" in life.
My nasty sin nature is sorely tempted to dive into an interest--
and dislodge the Lord from His place in my life.
I can easily become wrapped up in my passions
and quickly find myself worshipping an idol, a functional-god.
I found this quote by Tim Keller this week,
"Sin isn’t only doing bad things, it is more fundamentally making good things into ultimate things. Sin is building your life and meaning on anything, even a very good thing, more than on God."
Veganism is a good thing in my life.
Lord help me resist making it an ultimate thing.
